Abstract

Polypropylene, a widely used polymer material, has the advantages of low density, easy processing and good corrosion resistance. Unmodified polypropylene crystallizes slowly yielding large spherical crystal sizes, and leads to low product transparency and impact resistance. The addition of nucleating agents can accelerate the crystallization rate of polypropylene and improve the mechanical properties of the products, thus broadening their application areas. This review summaries the recent development of nucleating agents for polypropylene, introduces different types of nucleating agents, including sorbitol, carboxylates and phosphates, amides, polymers, and others, discusses the nucleating mechanism and effect from dispersibility, melting point, and structure-effect. At last, summarizes the aspects that can be further explored, and looks forward to the future development.
