The aggregation structure of the solvent and its interactions with solutes can significantly impact reaction activity, selectivity, and mechanism. Recently, hexafluoroisopropanol (HFIP) has become versatile solvents in various branches of chemistry. Gaining an understanding of the aggregation structure of HFIP and its effects on reaction activity and selectivity from the perspective of condensed matter chemistry can not only enhance our comprehension of the fundamental nature of solvent effects but also aid in the design and optimization of chemical reactions. This review briefly summarizes the aggregation structure and physicochemical properties of HFIP. Subsequently, through selected representative reactions, the influence of its different aggregation structures on the activity and selectivity of organic chemical reactions will be discussed. By clarifying the underlying mechanisms of the aggregation structure of HFIP and its influence on reaction activity and selectivity, this review aims to attract more attention and stimulate further research in the field of solvent-related condensed matter chemistry.
