Under the global carbon neutrality context, bio-based 2,5-furandicarboxylic acid(FDCA)has attracted much attention as a potential substitute for petroleum-based terephthalic acid(TPA). This review summarizes several synthetic routes and industrialization progress of FDCA, and the oxidation route of 5-hydroxymethylfurfural(HMF)has been found to be the most promising technological route for industrialization due to its simple pathway and high selectivity. In addition, we analyze the current industrialization catalytic system and emerging catalytic systems from the perspectives of thermodynamics and kinetics. Among them, the thermal catalytic technology that has been industrialized occupies a dominant position with its maturity process, while emerging systems such as electrocatalysis and biocatalysis, although having the potential advantages for green transformation, still face challenges in catalyst stability and large-scale application. Based on the life cycle assessment(LCA)method, this study systematically evaluates the environmental burden of the current FDCA production process and proposes corresponding process optimization strategies. Then, the current research progress and application prospects of FDCA and its downstream product chain are discussed. Finally, an outlook on the future development trends of FDCA technology and its industrial chain is provided, aiming to provide theoretical support for promoting sustainable development and low-carbon transformation in this field.
